on that in a moment thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm eric thomas. police are getting help from highway patrol first full day with extra chp officers patrolling streets to help stem a rising tide of crime. terry mcsweeney is live in oakland. >> reporter: at the substation is where chp officers reported for duty last night a spokeswoman tells me they were involved the officers were in several arrests and impounded a number of cars last night. interestingly, chp officers reported here at 7 p.m., 7:30 there was a violent crime. video of the grocery outlet, 2900 broadway, man with a gun robbed the place, customers were in the store at the time. it was a customer who called it in. that comes one day after an east oakland businessman wilbur bartley was shot and killed at his store on international boulevard. homicides in oakland up 20% this year over last. last week when the governor announced chm would help oakland pd. >> i can ahead -- -- i can afford some level of cooperation between highway patrol and sheriffs until my academies turn out more officers. >> reporter: oakland pd understaffed

. thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm eric thomas. first we check in with meteorologist lisa argen monitoring live doppler. what is going on? >>> good morning. we are just beginning to see the first rain band move into the bay area. we've got a good five hours of this, the yellows this is the last frame indicate the more moderate rain towards bodega bay, fort ross, inverness and an lima here's the north bay, sprinkles from san rafael, cortamadera, richmond san rafael bridge, golden gate bridge and around san francisco a few light returns. going to be another hour or so before we get into the steadier rain bay area wide and the winds are a factor gusting to near 30 miles an hour at our coast. is it impacting the commute yet sue? >> not yet, no reports of major accidents. golden gate bridge live shot you can see no cars coming through at this time, difficult to tell if the road is wet now or not, certainly it will be in the future no problems getting into san francisco southbound on the golden gate bridge. eastbound 580 north flynn, car fire on the shoulder, westbound drive out
on this tough friday thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm eric tom has. we have live team coverage of the storm. kira klapper is live in los gatos. katie marzullo is in mill valley. >> let's begin with meteorologist mike nicco. >>> the big story now is the flooding takes place in petaluma due to penngrove stream exceeding its banks green goes from old adobe road down to 101 out to 116 that's where we are having the flooding. please be careful if you live near penngrove stream it is exit banks. strongest radar return around bodega avenue and skillman lane where they come together going to slide across the heart of petaluma over the next five to 10 minutes and keep adding to the rainfall. the good news is as we look back up stream to the authority and west not seeing solid line of heavier rain, cold front moving through petaluma that's why you are getting lighter to moderate rain now. ahead of it you can see a nice swath of moderate rain moving through the bay area that's why we are getting ponding on the roads now and the winds are fastest now. we'll have our heaviest winds and our

. >>> and i'm kristen sze, thanks for joining us. a 20-year-old driver under arrest for felony dui after investigators say the car he was driving flew off an over pass on to the freeway in contra costa county in pinole on appian way on i-80. live picture at the scene traffic moving fine now, the scene is clear. what happened was shocking the driver went through the concrete barrier, 25 feet over that over pass on to the interstate. the 20-year-old driver and 21-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. this picture sent by the fire department shows what is left of the dodge durango. the driver was heading southbound on appian way he hit the guardrail off the overpass landed on the roof of the car. >>> san francisco police still looking for a man they say tried to ram an officer with a car. place telled to stop the man after he was suspected of breaking into a vehicle yesterday afternoon. he ran into a construction site after getting out of his car police dog joined the search for the man inside the unfinished building at third street, officers surrounded the building for a short time b
